Turning 31 Juneteenth Myths Into an Educational Video Series

  • Creative direction
  • Video production
  • Visual research
  • Project coordination
Truth Seeker Juneteenth series trailer thumbnail

At a Glance

  • The problem

31 Juneteenth myths needed a consistent, historically careful visual identity across every episode.

  • What I did

Storyboarded, researched visuals, edited the episodes, produced the trailer, and managed revisions.

  • The result

A complete educational video series and promotional trailer with a recognizable visual direction.

Project Overview

Dr. Charles Taylor wanted to produce an educational video series that would examine common myths and reveal important truths about Juneteenth.

The goal was to transform 31 historical topics and scripts into engaging visual episodes that were informative, consistent, and easier for a modern audience to understand.

The Challenge

Historical content requires careful visual treatment. Each episode needed imagery that supported the narration without distracting from the message or presenting inaccurate historical details.

The project also required a consistent visual identity across 31 episodes, multiple rounds of revisions, and the production of a promotional trailer.

How I Helped

I supported the project from creative planning through final video production. My responsibilities included:

  • Reviewing scripts and B-roll recommendations
  • Researching suitable historical and supporting visuals
  • Creating detailed visual storyboards
  • Generating custom images and video inserts
  • Developing the Truth Seeker character’s visual direction
  • Designing the approved blue-and-gold character wardrobe
  • Editing episodes in a consistent landscape format
  • Adding motion graphics, title cards, and visual transitions
  • Organizing project files and completed episodes
  • Managing revisions and keeping the client updated
  • Producing the promotional series trailer

To manage AI production costs, I created and reviewed the visual direction first before converting approved images into video.

What I Delivered

  • 31 educational video episodes
  • A consistent visual identity for the full series
  • A custom Truth Seeker character direction
  • Historical and supporting visual inserts
  • Motion graphics and episode title cards
  • A landscape promotional trailer
  • Organized delivery of all completed episodes

The Outcome

The client’s 31 Juneteenth myths and scripts were transformed into a complete educational video series with a recognizable visual direction.

The project gave the client a structured collection of content that could be shared, promoted, and used to educate audiences about the history and meaning of Juneteenth.

Client feedback

“Now we’re talking!! We have an excellent trailer. You did an excellent job on this series, and you can take a bow.”

At a Glance

  • The problem

A website, Kit, Kahunas, Stripe, and a team all had to work together as one customer journey.

  • What I did

Coordinated revisions, mapped the journeys, prepared Kit sequences, then tested and documented every issue.

  • The result

Problems found before a larger launch: 73 revisions coordinated, 11 form handlers tested, 484 records organized.

Project Overview

The client needed a more organized digital customer journey connecting its website, email marketing, membership app, payment system, and internal team.

My role was to coordinate the moving parts, translate business requirements into clear tasks, and help ensure that every form, email, link, and automation worked together as intended.

The Challenge

The project involved several connected platforms:

  • Website forms and landing pages
  • Kit email sequences and subscriber tags
  • Kahunas memberships and app onboarding
  • Stripe payments and checkout links
  • Lead magnets, quizzes, applications, and consultations

A problem in one system could affect the next step of the customer journey. This meant the project required detailed coordination, documentation, follow-ups, and testing—not simply setting up a few emails.

How I Helped

As the Automation & Digital Systems Coordinator, I worked between the client, webmaster, and other team members to keep the project organized and moving forward. My responsibilities included:

  • Translating client requirements into actionable website and automation tasks
  • Coordinating website revisions with the webmaster
  • Monitoring timelines, approvals, and pending deliverables
  • Following up with team members and documenting project updates
  • Mapping lead, trial, membership, purchase, and onboarding journeys
  • Preparing Kit tags, segments, and email sequences
  • Coordinating connections between the website, Kit, Kahunas, and Stripe
  • Organizing customer and prospect records
  • Testing forms, links, emails, downloads, payments, and redirects
  • Recording technical issues and assigning them to the appropriate team member
  • Retesting customer journeys after corrections were made

Customer Journeys Supported

The project included several journeys for different types of visitors and customers.

  • Lead Generation

    1. Website visitor
    2. Lead magnet or quiz
    3. Kit tag
    4. Email sequence
    5. Relevant offer
  • Membership Trial

    1. Plan selection
    2. Kahunas registration
    3. Stripe checkout

  • Digital Purchases

    1. Product selection
    2. Stripe payment
    3. Kit confirmation
    4. Receipt or download link
    5. Customer record
  • Consultation Booking

    1. Service page
    2. Calendly booking
    3. Confirmation
    4. Team follow-up

Email and Automation Support

I helped prepare and organize emails for:

  • Cookbook Sampler lead nurturing
  • Seven-day membership trials
  • Essential and Prime member onboarding
  • Signature applications and waitlists
  • Membership quiz results
  • Inactivity follow-ups
  • Purchases and downloadable products
  • Payment confirmations and failed payments
  • Upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, and reactivations

Testing and Quality Assurance

I conducted manual testing across desktop and mobile to check whether each customer received the correct result after taking an action. Testing covered:

  • Website forms
  • Kit tags and email sequences
  • Lead magnet delivery
  • Membership applications
  • Quiz results
  • Calendly consultations
  • Stripe checkout links
  • Digital product purchases
  • Email receipts and download links
  • Website redirects and buttons

When a journey produced an incorrect email, duplicate message, missing tag, or broken link, I documented the issue, coordinated with the responsible team member, and prepared it for retesting.

Project Highlights

  • 73tracked website revisions coordinated
  • 11website form handlers passed live Kit API testing
  • 484client records cleaned and organized
  • Multiple lead, application, purchase, and consultation journeys tested
  • Seven-day trial and lifecycle email content prepared
  • Centralized revision, testing, and issue-tracking documentation maintained

The Outcome

The project created a clearer connection between the client’s website, email platform, membership app, and payment system.

More importantly, detailed testing identified incorrect sequences, duplicate emails, missing forms, and integration issues before they could affect a larger marketing launch.

The client and development team received organized documentation showing what was working, what still required attention, and who needed to handle each next step.

My role

Automation & Digital Systems Coordinator

I served as the connection between the business goals and the people building the system—keeping requirements, communication, testing, and follow-ups organized throughout the project.

Designing Books for Print, Digital, and Audio Experiences

  • Book formatting
  • EPUB development
  • Amazon KDP support
  • Audio integration
Book interiors and covers formatted by Mary Flor

At a Glance

  • The problem

Print, Kindle, fixed-layout, and audio EPUB books each need different formatting decisions.

  • What I did

Formatted a children’s e-book with audio, KDP business books, and a long-form historical book.

  • The result

Professionally structured, publish-ready books for print and digital readers.

Project Overview

I have supported authors, educators, and publishing teams in transforming manuscripts into professional books for print and digital distribution.

My experience includes illustrated children’s e-books with audio, business and leadership books prepared for Amazon KDP, and a historical nonfiction project about Juneteenth.

Each project required a different approach to typography, layout, navigation, file preparation, and reader experience.

The Challenge

A manuscript is not automatically ready for publication once the writing is finished.

The content still needs to be structured, styled, tested, and prepared according to the requirements of its intended platform. Print books, reflowable Kindle books, fixed-layout children’s books, and audio-enhanced EPUBs all require different formatting decisions.

My role was to handle these technical and creative details while preserving the author’s message and visual direction.

Selected Projects

  1. 01

    Illustrated Children’s E-book With Audio

    Henrietta

This project involved formatting a 34-page illustrated children’s book consisting of 32 interior pages plus front and back covers.

    Two digital editions were prepared:

    • A standard e-book without audio
    • An EPUB 3 edition with approximately 29 minutes of integrated narration

For the audio edition, the narration needed to be divided, coded, and connected to the appropriate pages. The layout also had to preserve the relationship between the text and illustrations across supported devices.

    My contribution

    • Fixed-layout children’s e-book formatting
    • HTML5 and CSS3 EPUB development
    • Client-provided audio integration
    • Audio splitting and page assignment
    • Image and file optimization
    • EPUB navigation and metadata
    • PDF preparation
    • Cross-device testing and quality assurance

    The result

The author received separate audio and non-audio versions, giving readers the option to read independently or experience the story with narration.

  2. 02

Business and Leadership Books for Amazon KDP

    Publishing support for a client

Through my work with a client, I supported the production of business, leadership, nonfiction, and selected fiction manuscripts.

These projects required professional interior formatting, careful revision management, and preparation for print and Kindle publication.

    My contribution

    • Adobe InDesign interior formatting
    • Page size and margin setup
    • Typeface and paragraph-style development
    • Chapter-opening design
    • Running headers and page numbering
    • Tables, images, ornaments, and section-break styling
    • Hyphenation and justified-text refinement
    • Author and editor revision implementation
    • Print PDF preparation
    • Kindle and EPUB conversion support
    • Amazon KDP file preparation when required

    The result

Authors received cleaner, professionally structured interiors designed to support readability, strengthen their authority, and move their manuscripts closer to publication.

I also handled detailed manuscript updates, including replacing revised passages while protecting the surrounding layout from duplication or formatting errors.

  3. 03

    Historical Juneteenth Book

Bringing historical content into a professional book format

I supported the formatting and visual presentation of a long-form historical nonfiction book about Juneteenth for a client.

The project required organizing a large amount of historical content into an interior that felt credible, readable, and respectful of the subject.

    My contribution

    • Long-form book interior formatting
    • Chapter and section organization
    • Typography and paragraph styling
    • Historical image placement
    • Captions and supporting visual elements
    • Page consistency and layout refinement
    • Print-ready file preparation
    • Final revision implementation

    The result

The manuscript was transformed into a professionally presented historical book that could be shared beyond its original production team.

A copy of the completed book was later presented to Gaynel Curry of The Bahamas, Chairperson of the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent.

My Approach

For every book project, I begin by understanding:

  • The intended reader
  • The publishing format
  • The platform requirements
  • The author’s preferred visual direction
  • The complexity of the manuscript

From there, I build a formatting system that keeps the book consistent while giving important chapters, sections, illustrations, and supporting elements the attention they need.

From Canva Concept to a Functional Portfolio Website

  • Self-initiated project
  • Web design
  • Visual direction
  • Website building
Home page of the portfolio website designed by Mary Flor

At a Glance

  • The problem

Several different services needed to be presented clearly without making the website feel crowded.

  • What I did

Planned the structure, designed the layout in Canva, created the assets, and built and tested the site.

  • The result

A functional portfolio website and client portal concept that I continue to improve.

Project Overview

This website started as a curiosity project.

I wanted to explore how I could bring my creative work, project experience, and different services together in one organized digital space. Instead of waiting for a client project, I decided to design and build my own portfolio website and client portal.

The result is the functional website you are viewing today.

The Challenge

My work covers several areas, including book formatting, creative production, project coordination, lead generation, and email automation.

The main challenge was presenting these services without making the website feel confusing or overcrowded. I also needed the design to reflect my personality while remaining professional and easy for potential clients to navigate.

Because I was creating the website for myself, I had to think like both the designer and the client.

My Process

  1. 01

    Planning the Structure

I started by identifying the information a potential client would need to see.

    What I identified

    • Who I help
    • What problems I solve
    • The services I provide
    • Examples of my work
    • Proof of my experience
    • How to contact or work with me

    The result

From there, I organized the content into clear website sections and pages.

  2. 02

    Designing the Layout in Canva

Before building the website, I created the initial visual layout in Canva.

    What I explored

    • Page hierarchy
    • Content placement
    • Typography
    • Brand colours
    • Buttons and calls to action
    • Project cards
    • Mobile-friendly content structure

    The result

The Canva design served as my visual guide during the website-building process.

  3. 03

    Creating and Organizing the Assets

I gathered my existing work and created the additional assets needed for the website.

    What I prepared

    • Portfolio images
    • Project thumbnails
    • Case-study graphics
    • Service icons
    • Personal branding elements
    • Website copy
    • Testimonials and project proof

    The result

I also reviewed which projects best demonstrated my skills instead of uploading every piece of work I had completed.

  4. 04

    Building the Website

After completing the visual direction, I turned the Canva concept into a working website.

    What I did

    • Created the pages
    • Added the content and assets
    • Connected the navigation
    • Refined each section so visitors could move through the site easily

    The result

I also developed a client portal concept to create a more organized space for client-related information and resources.

  5. 05

    Testing and Refinement

Once the website became functional, I reviewed the experience from a visitor’s perspective.

    What I checked

    • Page navigation
    • Buttons and links
    • Content readability
    • Visual consistency
    • Image quality
    • Section spacing
    • Desktop and mobile presentation
    • Contact and inquiry paths

    The result

I continue to improve the website as my services, experience, and portfolio grow.

What I Created

  • A functional personal portfolio website
  • A client portal
  • Custom page layouts
  • Branded website assets
  • Service and project sections
  • Portfolio case studies
  • Clear navigation and calls to action
  • An organized digital home for my work

The Outcome

What began as a curiosity project became a functional platform that represents my skills, experience, and approach to working with clients.

The project also gave me practical experience in planning a website, designing its user experience, organizing content, creating visual assets, and turning a static Canva layout into a working digital product.

More importantly, it showed me that I could take an idea from concept to completion by combining creativity, organization, research, and continuous problem-solving.
